Making a Difference . . .

" I am honored and grateful to be receiving such an award. Thank you for your generosity in funding this scholarship and thinking about the education of students like me in the Environmental Science field. As a student who is pursuing both a double major (Environmental Science/Biology) and a double minor (Chemistry/French), I am incredibly thankful for this financial aid, and will continue to work hard to make the most of my education. In the future, I hope to conduct environmental research - particularly on climate change - and also get involved in politics/policymaking in order to combat climate change on both of th4ese fronts. Attending the MWCC conference allowed me to network with people who are as enthusiastic about this field as I am, and learn about the current environmental issues/research occurring in Missouri. Once again, I am incredbly thankful for this opportunity and glad that I was able to go! Thank you for the work you do and for inspriting students like me."  Shereya Suri

The Missouri Waste Control Coalition (MWCC) provides scholarships each year to college students at select educational institutions. Currently, MWCC provides two $1,000 scholarships through five schools in Missouri.  They are:

  • Lincoln University
  • Missouri State University
  • Missouri University of Science & Technology
  • Southeastern Missouri University
  • University of Missouri - Columbia

In addition to the monetary award, the recipients are invited to the upcoming annual environmental conference at Margaritaville Lake Resort in July.  MWCC provides them with a free registration and hotel room.

The scholarships are administered by the educational institutions and must be made to students who meet the following criteria:

  • A Missouri resident
  • A student in good standing with the University
  • A student majoring in environmental studies

MWCC also awards free conference registrations and hotel rooms to two additional students from each educational institution. The recipients are also determined by the school.

MWCC is proud to have been providing scholarships to college students since 2009 as part of its mission to encourage environmental education.

"I am writing you to thank youfor the generous help towards my education. I am a graduate student enrolled with the department of geoscience at UMKC. I hold a Bachelors in Engineering degee from India and I plan to work with government agencies in the near future after my post graduation. I had a great time attending the MWCC annual scholarship conference as a part of the award. I gained useful insight into the environmental field and had the opportunity to meet new people across the entire state of Missouri. This has further enhanced my interest towards the field I have chosen. The scholarship has lightened my financial burden which allows me to focus more on the most important aspect of school, learning. I hope one day I will be able to help students achieve their goals just as you helped me. Thank you."  Foram Dusal
